Target Confuses Pregnant Model With Plus-Size Model

It must be a lot of work to maintain a retail site without doing something offensive to alienate swaths of your client base (hello, Urban Outfitters). This week, Target joins the ranks of the offenders with their apparent inability to differentiate a pregnant woman from a plus-size woman.

Target’s Merona Women’s Plus-Size Short-Sleeve V-Neck Maxi Dress in Black/Cream was modeled by what appears to be a pregnant women on Target.com. The photos were removed, but Jezebel managed to get a screenshot of the images (see above).

According to a statement released by Target and published by the Huffington Post, the image was an error due to “a garment at a photo shoot being mislabeled.” They apologized, and called it an unfortunate oversight.

This isn’t the first time Target has made this kind of mistake. In April of last year, they labeled a grey, plus-size dress as “manatee grey,” while the same, regular-size dress came in “dark heather grey.”

Seems like someone over at Target seriously needs to have an eye exam.

Do you shop at Target? Will mistakes like these keep you away? Let us know at @iVillageCanada.
