Black Friday Canada 2013: Where to Shop Across the Country

Oh, the siren call of bargain shopping! For many years, Canadians journeyed to the U.S., hunting for the best Black Friday deals. But this year, on November 29, many Canadian retailers will slash their prices in attempt to keep Canucks on this side of the border.

For the second year in a row, Cadillac Fairview's roster of malls -- from Vancouver’s Pacific Centre to New Brunswick’s Champlain Place -- will have extended hours; $10 gift cards will go to the first 100 shoppers who arrive at guest services.

Over at Yorkdale in Toronto, they'll be offering $50 gift cards to the first 100 shoppers in line. Other perks include gift-wrapping and $10 Yorkdale gift card to shoppers travelling to the mall with a TTC Family Day Pass.

Even small businesses are hoisting the Black Friday banner. Over 50 business improvement areas across the Greater Toronto Area have joined the Yellow Pages Group’s initiative "Shop the Neighbourhood" which encourages Toronto residents to buy from local stores between Black Friday (November 29) and Cyber Monday (Dec 1).

According to Anthony Casalanguida (General Manager, Yorkdale Shopping Centre), in 2012, 40 per cent of Yorkdale customers surveyed shopped on Black Friday. The projection for this year? A whopping 94 per cent. Which means, we're not the only ones who feel there's something primal to the thrill of bargain shopping: hunting around, stalking products and swooping in to purchase.
